Grandma's Sugar Cookies and Frosting. These really are Grandma's Best Sugar Cookies! They're perfectly soft, a little bit chewy, with the right amount of tang from the sour cream. This Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe is a copycat recipe of the grandma's big, frosted cookies sold in grocery stores. The cream cheese frosting and freshness of the cookies make them even better! Be prepared for a storm of powdered sugar to fly everywhere, unless you're really patient and only do like a tablespoon at a time.
When all the powdered sugar is combined, the frosting will be really thick and almost crumbly.
Note: This will give you enough to frost a batch of cookies, but I always double the recipe so I have LOTS of frosting to play with.
A classic no-fail recipe, delicious when topped with cream cheese frosting.

Divide the icing into two bowls. You will need a thinner consistency to frost the cookies and a medium consistency to do the decorations. Add a few tablespoons of water to one bowl. These Sour Cream Cookies are not the difficult, finnicky cookies that require hours of rolling, cutting, baking, and decorating. They are a soft sugar cookie made with sour cream, and they have a fluffy, delicate texture that I find much more appealing.
